Personal Statement

My name is Miranda Husband-Wood, and I am currently 17 years old and enjoying my Junior year at Hickory High School in Chesapeake, VA where I am a proud athlete on the varsity golf team and swim team.  Go Hawks!

I am very disciplined and focused on achieving my goals, which has taught me the importance of a healthy lifestyle and proper time management.

I have been playing golf for the last six years under the expert instruction of the Michelle Holmes School of Golf, while also maintaining a successful academic record.  I plan to study pre-med and become a doctor in my future.  I am also balancing music as well. I have played the piano for 10 years, and viola for 6 years as a member of my high school orchestra and regional chamber orchestra.

I find many parallels with golf and life.  Being in the present with focus and calmness.  Positive thoughts foster positive results.  Self-esteem and self-trust.  All of these make for a solid foundation for success both in golf and life.

I am very excited about my golf journey, and I am looking forward to learning and applying the skills necessary to compete at the collegiate level.

  • This camp was an incredible and memorable event that I am proud to have been a part of. The main purpose of this camp was to show the power that girls hold within themselves. It was incredibly informative, inspiring, and empowering. It teaches you that all girls have the confidence and strength to achieve anything in life. It shows girls the importance of leadership and positivity and that those skills can help lead better lives. One aspect that made this camp amazing was that these skills and concepts revolved around the game of golf. We were able to apply these skills in our practices and rounds where it helped us work on our confidence to improve our game. It showed more of the fact that golf is a sport that teaches you many life skills which is what makes it a spectacular sport.
