Personal Statement
Since the age of three, when I first put on hockey skates, I have aspired to one-day play high-level college hockey. From the very start, I have been passionate about being a goaltender. I have known that reaching the collegiate level would require commitment and hard work, and I have been willing to do as much as possible, on and off the ice, to compete at the highest level.
On the ice, I am very coachable and driven, as well as being a student of the game. I am always the hardest working player, and will never turn down an opportunity to do more. Being a good, solid goaltender requires athleticism, as well as being well rounded. Along with hockey, I have played many different sports to increase my strength, flexibility, endurance and quickness. This helps on the ice to be as versatile as possible. Outside of sports, I spend several hours a week in the gym lifting, and outside doing cardio, so that I can be in great shape year round. Before going to Hotchkiss, I had played boys hockey for eight seasons and played girls hockey for one. I played at the top levels with the boys and the girls. My most memorable experience was at the 2015 National tournament with the New England Jr. Falcons where we won a bronze medal. Currently, I am going to be a three-year member of the Hotchkiss Girls Varsity team as well as playing on a club team in the competitive Massachusetts Girls Hockey League. While there is a huge difference between boys and girls hockey, I’ve accepted the change and learned to adapt to the different styles.
In the classroom, I strive to learn as much as possible, and will never turn down an opportunity to learn more. At Hotchkiss, I am constantly being challenged and pushed out of my comfort zone. When I am not practicing sports or training, I am studying and participating in other extracurricular activities such as symphony orchestra. In order to maintain a high GPA, it is necessary to dedicate a lot of time to schoolwork, so I have been able to improve my time management skills as well as ways to find a balance in my schedule.
I look forward to being able to challenge myself and put these skills that I have developed to the test in a demanding college environment.
