Personal Statement

While hockey is a huge part of my identity, it’s not my whole life. I started playing roller hockey when I was eight because I wanted to be just like my big brother.  Unfortunately, I didn’t take to skating or team work. I was a little gremlin and wanted to do things my own way. I loved being like my big brother, but hated hockey. At 10, I decided to hang up my skates to focus on finding my passion. I started horseback riding and it changed my life. It strengthened my core, improved my endurance, but most importantly helped me understand the importance of teamwork. I still ride several times a week and teach lessons to novice riders. After a five-year break from hockey, I decided to get back on the rink and found my place in the net. This time I was playing because I loved it. I was playing inline on an outdoor concrete rink 2-3 days a week and indoors once a week. With my limited options (no women’s leagues) I took every opportunity to play, whether it was co-ed in my age division, the adult leagues or practicing in my backyard. I was invited to several roller tournaments and was awarded best goalie in my co-ed age division last summer (2023). I realized that not only did I love being a goalie, but I was pretty good and wanted to continue to grow and play in college. Unfortunately, there are no female inline hockey teams at a collegiate level, so transitioning to ice was imperative. With only one ice rink in the entire state, I only get to play on ice twice a week. However, I continue to play roller, I just finished competing in the TOHRS tournament (April 2024) in San Jose, CA, I played in two divisions women’s, and 16u boys. I won best goalie in the women’s division based on save percentage. My experience playing inline and ice have helped me become a well rounded goalie.  Between Inline and ice, I play 4-5 nights a week and my skill level is improving exponentially.  I hope you will take the time to review my profile. What you will see is that I will be an asset to your team on and off the ice.
