Personal Statement
I will be beginning my seventh season of hockey. I fell in love with the sport at the age of nine. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to play collegiate hockey. My ultimate goal would be to play for a Division One team out of a prestigious university. My more realistic goal would be to play Division One or Division Three hockey through a school that has a strong focus on academics. I want to continue to play the game that I fell in love with while creating a life and career for myself. What I would want to achieve most, if I play collegiate hockey, is to become more advanced and disciplined in my game.
I believe that to be a part of a team, a player needs certain characteristics. A player must show respect to their coach, have a very strong work ethic, treat every teammate as a brother or sister, and show dedication to the sport they love. I believe that I fall into every one of those categories. A coach has more knowledge of the game than I could ever wish for. If he or she says to do a drill a certain way, I will never argue due to the fact that I respect them and their knowledge. Out on the ice, I believe that if your legs do not feel like jelly and your face is not dripping sweat, you could have always worked harder. Alongside good work ethic is having good relationships with your teammates. I believe a great teammate is one who is supportive and kind, just like a brother or sister. That is what I aim to be. Finally, I consider myself to be completely committed to the game of hockey. To better myself further, I train hard, shoot hundreds of pucks, and take advantage of any ice time available to me. In regards to good candidacy, I see myself fit.
Compared to other athletes, I am more humble about my abilities. In many areas on the ice, I am strong. However, I do not like to brag or make anyone feel like they are not skilled. I enjoy being kind to teammates and coaches. Responsibility also has a strong foothold in my life. Academics and my team come before anything else. On the academic side, I push myself to maintain the highest grade point average available to me. This means taking Honors classes to elevate my GPA above a 4.0. Also, keeping a high GPA may also mean more academic scholarships as I make my way into college. On the athletic side, I am devoted to making myself better, for myself but also for my team. I attend any camp available, pick up extra practice sessions on the weekends, and help coach mites and peewees. Aside from hockey, I also play soccer at a high level. I lettered as a Freshman and hope to continue working hard in that sport. I want to keep myself at the highest level of my game that I can be at to help my team succeed in every way possible.
