Personal Statement
I first played hockey in February 2014 but have been skating my whole life. I never even imagined I would have the opportunity to have college hockey a viable option, all I knew was that I fell in love with the sport. I started off by playing for my favourite team's Learn To Play group and quickly moved on to playing for Lanarkshire Lightning, then the Scotland ladies team. I decided to take a shot at trying out for the Great Britain team and made the U16 squad. I realised then that I wanted to move on to bigger and better things set my goals higher, push myself farther. I ended up getting a place on a hockey academy in America which was a dream come true. This was when my dream of playing college hockey became in reach.
Academics are my top priority and I always aim to push myself in every aspect. I have been involved in leadership groups, choir, eco committees and tried just about every after school club my schools had to offer. My love of being involved with the community and helping others is what leads me to want to be a social worker. I would love to major in Social Work or Sociology to allow me to fulfill my aspirations.
My determination is what makes me stand out from others. I set a target and make it happen, I never give up and I am determined to make a difference at whatever I do. I thrive to improve myself and those around me. I enjoy working with young children and have been lucky enough to help coach my u8, u10 and learn to play group when I was in scotland and since I have been in Canada I have been able to help out with a power skating session for young children. I am very patient when helping others and fit in well wherever I go.
I have been lucky enough to live in three different countries doing what I love and I feel this has helped me understand other people and different cultures. I have also done competitive judo for 8 years and this has instilled a high level of discipline and respect in me. I have travelled to many countries which has given me even more of a good understanding of others and their cultures.
On the ice these qualities carry over. I am respectful of my opponents and most importantly my teammates. I am respectful of my coaches and my work ethic is what makes me stand out on the ice, no matter how bad my situation seems I never give up. Battling for the puck and giving my all every time I step onto the ice are very important aspects of my game. I know that I have a role to play on each team I play for and I also know that everyone has a role. I am a good team player and always put my teammates first on and off the ice and this generates a good respect amongst my teammates and I.
School and hockey have been my life since I began playing and I couldn't imagine my life without them. College is a huge decision and I want to make sure I choose well and make the most of my time at college and in North America.
