Personal Statement
Hi my name is Evelyn Latka.
My current future long-term goals include playing college hockey while earning a degree for medical school to become a Neurosurgeon. This year I decided to move away from home and play for Culver Girls Academy (Prep). I have had to adapt to living without my family and become more independent. At first, it was difficult but I am ultimately glad I made the decision. This past season I made many new friends and enjoyed playing hockey with my new team. I am always excited to skate and showcase my skills and talents to contribute to my team and grow as a player. I have grown a lot this year and finished at the top of my team in overall points. I am looking forward to all the upcoming season has in store for my team and I.
I am a great candidate for any college hockey team that is interested in a competitive athlete who loves to win! As one of the top 2006 female players in the state of Colorado, I attribute much of my success to playing on boys' teams for the majority of my hockey career up until the 2020 season. I am a strong team player that can skate the puck and lead a team with great hockey IQ. I am a playmaker that sees opportunities and makes smart decisions on the ice. I am small, but I play with heart and tenacity. My coaches tell me that I have a strong work ethic in games and practices. I learn new things and work on basics then apply these skills in game situations.
Additionally, I am a great student and enjoy being challenged in and out of the classrooms. My grades have been above average as I have made honor roll my entire middle school and high school years. I spent my freshman year at Mountain Vista High School and decided last year to repeat my freshman year at Culver Academy to get all four years of school and hockey. As I enter my sophomore year at Culver, I will only strive to do the best I can and aim to achieve my academic goals throughout the rest of high school. I look forward to speaking with any college or university that seeks an individual/student/hockey player that wants nothing more than a student like me to achieve my lifelong goals.
