Personal Statement
My goal is to play college hockey. I have great vision on the ice and can set up plays as well as finish them. I am very coacheable and bring a positive attitude to every game and practice. I work hard every shift and give 100% every time I hit the ice. Every ice session I try to improve my game, I also try to help my teammates around me improve as well. Every time I lace up my skates I know it's time to work and improve.
Playing on two teams allows me to realize the value of time management. With this valuable skill I can find a balance between my schoolwork and hockey. I will always finish my schoolwork before I head out to have fun.I also work hard in the classroom. I make the honor roll every year and carry a 3.6 GPA. I realize that hard work can get me to where I want to go both on the ice and in the classroom. I don't let the negative influence that floods the halls of a public high school influence me. I've surrounded myself with a community of people and resources that support me and help me achieve my goals. Participating in the IB diploma program has been a demanding yet rewarding path. Although the workload is heavier than any other path a high schooler can take, I am being taught how to prepare for college courses. All of my IB classes are formatted just like a university course. The teachers also expect the work ethic of a university student.
I also realize the value of giving back to my community. I volunteer regularly at the local Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club. At the Club I help younger kids with homework, I help out in the kitchen and I help organize events. I also organized a 5K run and donated the profits to a local program called Footprints in Akwesasne. This program helps the youth with special needs by taking them to different recreational events in the surrounding community. I believe I am ready to perform both athletically and academically at the next level. I am also ready to work hard and improve any weaknesses in my game
