Personal Statement
I have always aspired to play hockey at the collegiate level. I first stepped out on the ice as a player at 10 years old, but the sport of hockey has always been in my blood. Playing ice hockey when I attend college is a once and a lifetime opportunity that would surely change my life.
As a player, I’d deem myself very coachable. If I’m given a tip by one of my coaches, I’ll work extremely to fix it and work even harder to make myself a better player. I’ve never been one to give up on my goals, and even if something may seem unattainable I’ll work until I meet that goal. As Jesse Jackson once said; “If you fall behind, run faster. Never give up, never surrender, and rise up against the odds.” I am a leader both on and off the ice, I work hard to remain positive so that my teammates are ready and in the game. Many coaches have told me that I am a ‘utility player’. I can and have played every position on the ice, minus goalie, when and where the coach has needed me. This designation is something that I am proud of because, unlike most players, I am willing to play out of my comfort zone to benefit my team and help my teammates in any way. Another accomplishment I am proud of is being selected for the NYS District Camp the spring of 2017.
I strive for excellence both on and off the ice. I work extremely hard to maintain a high grade point average, last year and in previous years I have earned both High and Exceptional Honors every single semester. In the past I have been apart of the National Junior Honor Society (only available to 8th graders) and strive to maintain my average so that I can join the National Honor Society my senior year of highschool. I also strive to make my community a better place. I've helped mentor young girls at several clinics at my home rink and hope to do so more frequently in the future. Off the ice I am a member of my high school's SADD club, where we strive to educate our community about the effects of destructive decisions. I hope to eventually become a member of the Peer Leadership and Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse programs that are offered at my school, which are only available to both juniors and seniors.
I am open to any opportunities that come my way and am willing to play at any level of collegiate hockey presented to me. I look forward to finding the right school, where I will be able to focus on academics while playing the sport I love.
Next year, I will be attending Vermont Academy as a PG in hopes that I will be able to get faster, stronger and improve my skills on the ice.
