Personal Statement
Embracing the words of Abraham Lincoln, “whatever you are, be a good one”, I am committed to being the best “good one” I can be. Academically, I challenge myself to take the most difficult classes and with each success, I am further encouraged to continue on this rigorous path. The discipline and dedication that it takes to achieve my academic accomplishments, I owe in part to my participation in hockey. Requiring a significant time commitment, club hockey taught me the importance of organization and putting my priorities in order early on. In dedicating myself to this sport, I employ a high compete level as my signature contribution to my team. My defensive effort is unrelenting and when that determination becomes a reward, it produces strength in me to meet further challenges.
Among my goals in college and beyond, I have a strong interest in exploring the sciences and a career in healthcare. Having exposure to the healthcare environment while volunteering in my local hospital, I enjoy the fast paced environment where you must think on your feet and face new obstacles each day. Whether it is research, clinical care, or some other discipline, I would like to make a real difference in people’s lives, particularly in the field of oncology. Looking ahead in hockey, academics, and life, it is my goal to say that I dedicate myself to being a “good one”.
