Personal Statement

"There is alaways a play to make, even away from the puck"

Since the age of 3, I have played sports but Hockey has always been my true passion. Just before my 4th birthday, I attended a "learn to play hockey camp", even though at the time,  I did not know how to skate. On the 2nd day of the camp, I taught myself to skate backwards, I guess I was destined to play defense. I played travel hockey on boys teams as a defenseman every year except my first Mite season. The 2014-15 season I played on an all girls travel team against boys teams in the local travel league. I played Center to work on my offensive skills and I lead the league in goals and overall points. Playing Center was so much fun and now I apply those offensive skills to my defensive position which I feel has made me a much stronger and effective player.

I also played full contact with boys at the Bantam level and on my high school team. There is not enough support for girls hockey in Dallas for girls to form their own team and play non checking at this level. Although Dallas is not a great place for growing the girls game, I do believe I benefited from playing in the boys league, learning to protect myself and how to be stronger and more aggressive along the boards. 1 on 1 along the boards, I can usually win that battle even against boys who have a physical advantage.

I also played soccer for 6 years and I am on the track team in the high jump event although I have run cross country some too. Hockey is my true passion however, and I try to give back by working with younger children in " Lil Rookies" programs and girls "Learn To Skate" programs. I love children and help pay for my hockey, which is very expensive in Dallas Tx, by baby sitting and working in my father's guitar shop. I do play a little guitar but it's hard to fit it in around athletics.

I am a good student with good grades but at this point, I have not completely decided on my academic career path. I am leaning towards majoring in education and coaching hockey in my spare time. My goal is to attend a college or university which can offer me a great education in whichever field I decide, and also provide me an opportunity to play hockey at the collegiate level. I believe there is a mutual benefit for any institution offering that opportunity, I not only do I possess a tremendous physical presence with my height and reach, but I bring the skills set, knowledge, and desire to be successful.
