Personal Statement

My name is Alexandra Lewis, but I prefer to go by Lexi. I am 16 years old and have dreams to play college hockey.

I've been watching hockey ever since I was two years old. Being in a military family, I've changed favorite teams multiple times. As of today, I'm forced to cheer for my local team, the Washington Capitals. I didn't begin playing hockey until I was 10 years old, which is a really late start. Before hockey, my favorite sport to participate in was gymnastics. Anyways, the reason I started playing hockey was because my brother, Cameron, was always doing the learn to play hockey classes. I thought it looked like a lot of fun, so of course, I got signed up too. I played house hockey for a year. Halfway through my second season I got started playing girls travel hockey. I instantly fell in love with the game. I loved it so much I told everybody I knew that in college I would major in hockey.

Ever since I stepped foot on the ice, I knew I wanted to play college hockey. Unfortunately, it wasn't until recently that I realized how much work that it's going to take to make it. The moment I found out though, there hasn't been a day that has gone by where I haven't done something to improve my hockey skills. I have dreams of playing D1 hockey and will do anything and everything to reach my dreams. One of my proudest accomplishment is leading my team, the Nova Ice Dogs, to the u12 Chesapeake Bay Hockey League championships. Ever since then, I have pushed myself to play tier 1 for the u14 Washington Pride and tier 2 for the u19 Potomac Lady Patriots.

Now, let me tell you about some of my other experiences with sports. In 7th grade, I began playing lacrosse. My first year I wasn't very good, but I was on a good team that never lost a single game. We went the whole season undefeated and won the championship. I played another season in 8th grade. I had some experience that year and was a big part of the team. We went undefeated another year and won another championship. In 9th grade, I decided it was time to try something else. I thought it was a good idea to improve my cardio and run track. In the beginning of the season, I started pole vaulting. I loved it so much and focused mainly on that. My highest in a meet was 5 feet, but in practice I cleared as high as 7 feet. I also ran the 100 and the 200 meter dash.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
