Rylie Flohr '18 Recruiting Profile

    Ever since I began hockey, it has always been something I love to do. I see every time I step on the ice as an opportunity to better myself and I don't take that for granted. If there is one goal I have for my near future, aside from academics, it is to play hockey at the collegiate level. My attitude and dedication for the sport show that I am willing to do everything it takes to make this goal something more than just a goal.

    I am a junior at Tomahawk High School and I primarily play left defense. I have experience with the forward positions as well. During my freshman and sophomore years, I have played for the Tomahawk Hatchets in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Since my high school team unfortunately was unable to provide enough players for this next season, we have combined to play with the Lakeland T-birds of Minocqua, WI until my graduating year in 2018.

    The teams I have played with throughout my career have varied tremendously. I have played on nearly every end of the spectrum when it comes to hockey, which I'm extremely grateful for because it has broadened my view of how the game should be played. To me, wherever I play, I am focused on getting better each day because I truly love the game. A goal for me is to always make my teammates look better than myself and make plays that I don't necessarily get recognized for. I step up my game each time I play, and I have realized that if I continue this, my hockey career may go beyond high school. This is why I am willing to leave it all on the ice every day, and also because I simply love the sport more than anything.

    I have been chosen as a team captain as a sophomore and have earned Honorable Mention All-Conference this last year as a sophomore as well. At my rate of improvement, I believe that I will be able to achieve my goals of playing in college. Any chance I can possibly get to be on the ice or at the rink watching a game or even a practice, that’s where I will be. My life revolves around hockey and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

    Academically, my grades reflect my effort. My grades consist of all A’s, which shows that I work just as hard in the classroom as I do on the ice. However, I also realize that school is a higher priority than hockey. I am interested in going into the medical field, preferably to go on to taking pre-medicine or majoring in either chemistry or biology. I realize that if I want to go into a field such as this, I must take higher level classes than the majority of my peers. Being able to challenge myself in high school hopefully will direct me on the right course for going into college. I also am involved in many groups and activities outside of school that help me learn, such as an executive counselor in Varsity Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), student council, science club, groups through my church, track and field, and cross country. I am focused on learning as much as I can to prepare for my future.

To have success, keeping a positive attitude, having a strong perseverance, and never taking an opportunity for granted are all key aspects that I have within me. I see that playing hockey is a privilege, not a right. I will always work hard to achieve my goals to move on to the next level. Although hockey is a large part of my life, school is my top priority. My standards for myself to be involved, maintain my grades, and be the best athlete I can be are high, and will not deteriorate.
