Personal Statement

Hi! My name is Melanie Silverman and I have been playing lacrosse for 10 years. I started in first grade and have developed a complete love for the sport. I have been playing competitively on a club team called Nor'easter for 3 years. This year I played varsity lacrosse for my high school team as a freshman. It was an amazing experience to be able to play with older girls and by doing this I was able to further improve  as a player. Not one girl on a team is more important than another, and everyone has to have trust in each other to be successful. I also maintained a GPA of 4.13 during the season, and was always able to make time for extracurricular activities.

I strive for continuous improvement with my lacrosse skills and development as a player. I am very interested in furthering this by playing in college. Hopefully I get the opportunity!!

Thank you!

Melanie

Training

  • Going to the gym, at home tapes, going to the field, football coach training the lacrosse team, independent activities
  • 3 years
  • I started training when I started playing Nor'easter because I wanted to keep up with the new level of play. Training advanced going into freshman year because I knew I wanted to play varsity lacrosse and it wouldn't come easy. I wanted to prove that a freshman can make the team and fit in with the girls who have been playing on the team for 2 or 3 years. The football coach at my school started a program during the winter in which he would help prepare the lacrosse players for the spring season. 3 days a week we lifted weights, ran, worked on speed and footwork, and were assisted in getting a stronger shot. It was very beneficial and definitely prepared me for the season. However, I made sure I was exercising everyday on my own and was always eating well.
