Personal Statement

My name is Lindsey Isenberg and I will be a member of the 2019 graduating class. I began playing lacrosse in fifth grade primarily as a defender. When I started playing, my team didn’t have a goalie. The coach would randomly choose a player who would play the position of goalie, and on occasion I was chosen. These occasions led to my growing love of the position. By seventh grade I had completely transitioned to the position of goalie. In my eighth grade year I was the MVP of my school team and carried the team to numerous wins throughout the season.

I am a dedicated player and work towards improvement whenever possible. During the off season I workout and run with my team as well as doing clinics, and attend club practices for my travel team, Albany Elite. During the fall season I am on the Varsity Swimming and Diving team. This year I received the 110% award from my swim coach. This is awarded to the swimmer or diver who the coach thought put in the most effort and did whatever they could to improve and help out the team. My coach also said I was always persevering through any challenging set given. This was another factor in me receiving the award.

Since the beginning of my lacrosse career, I have had a strong love for every aspect of the game. Throughout all of the seasons I have grown as a person and a player both on and off the field. I have learned better communication skills and teamwork through playing lacrosse, and it has helped me grow into a more confident leader. My skills as a leader grew even more when I was selected out of my 2019 class, along with eight other students, to attend the HOBY Clew leadership workshop. This workshop and lacrosse have shown me how to be a leader and how to be heard on and off the field.

While playing lacrosse during the school year it has helped me to have better time management skills. I have learned to find time and use it to my advantage when trying to balance academic demands, lacrosse practices, workouts and games. Time management is a skill I will use throughout my life and a skill that will only improve. Lacrosse has also taught me the importance of trust. If you do not trust the members of your team, the game is very difficult to play. Without trust, everything falls apart. All of the players need to trust the abilities of each of their teammates as well as putting trust in themselves. The trust in my teammates is high and only getting higher. I trust each and every one of my teammates to do their job and if the ball is given to them to control the ball, get it down the field, and to finish their shot.

While being devoted to being a great player I am also committed to school. My goals in my high school career are to stay above a 3.6 GPA and to rise up to the challenging classes. School has always been extremely important to me and I always do my best to surpass what is expected of me. I expect my love for school and learning, as well as my love of lacrosse to continue throughout college.
