Personal Statement
By way of introduction, my name is Ciara Gordon and I currently attend Lynbrook High School in Nassau County, New York where I am a junior. As a sophomore on the varsity lacrosse team my responsibilities included running the point on offense as well as taking the draw. As a 'middie' I also had defensive responsibilities. My junior year promises to be exciting as we look to build on the success (and near successes- 7 one goal losses) of last season. I have also been a two year starter on the varsity basketball team and have recently been named as a starting member (setter) for a very competitive varsity volleyball team.
This past summer (2013) I did not play travel lacrosse since my travel team disbanded although I did play AAU travel basketball as well as local 'club' team lacrosse and as a member of the Brine National Team (Long Island Squad).
I would like to major in some area of science, possibly the field of biology or pre-medicine. At some point in my life I would like to help people in some capacity involving the medical field. Towards that end I am looking for a school that can challenge me both academically and athletically. I believe I would be a positive asset to any team based on past performance, ability, 'coachability', drive and love of the game.
Numerous women in my life have served as role models and as inspirations to me, instilling an appreciation for the struggles that women have had to undergo in order to be seen as strong, independent and also equal to men in their pursuit of opportunities, both on and off the playing field. This was most recently driven home to me by the series "Nine for IX" on ESPN (http://espn.go.com/espnw/w-in-action/nine-for-ix/). My goal is to continue on the path blazed by these women with the hope of going even farther as an athlete and as a woman.
Thanks for taking a look at my profile and good luck on your recruiting search as well as your season.
