Personal Statement
My name is Christine Wolford. I am an 11th grader at Webster Thomas High School and a member of the class of 2020. I currently play defense and have played lacrosse at the club level for eleven years. I played varsity as a 10th grader and was a starter on the JV team for Webster Thomas High School (Webster, New York) as an 8th grader and 9th grader. I also was named defensive MVP both years on JV. I play club lacrosse for Common Goal 2020 Orange. I have started on defense for Common Goal since it formed.
This summer I was selected to represent the US on a U19 lacrosse team in the United Kingdom and also was a participant at the Northstar Invitational in Lake Placid. Both of these experiences helped me grow as a player and a person. During the summer of 2017 I played on the Upstate Under Armour Uncommitted team at Towson, MD.
I am proud to be a leader on both my club and High School teams. For example, when I am on the field and a goal is scored against us, I make sure our defense huddles together to discuss what went wrong and how to fix it. I pride myself on my aggressive style of play and never being intimidated by players from the other team no matter their size and ability. I work hard to make sure I have an impact in every single game I play.
Academically, I maintain a 90 GPA and scored a combined 1120 on my SATs as a 10th grader. I took accelerated Science, Math and Social Studies as a 8th grader. I also took Chemistry, AP Prep Global Studies and Geometry as a 9th grader. As a sophomore I took AP Global History, AP Biology, and Algebra 2/Trigonometry. This year I continue to challenge myself academically. I am taking AP US History, AP English Language, and AP Psychology as well as pre-calculus.
I want to pursue a career as an Orthopedic Surgeon. I am planning on taking the SATs again in November 2018. I take my studies very seriously and have learned over the years how to balance sports with academics. I received 3 awards in my middle school career: two of them for outstanding achievement in science and math and the other for self-motivation and perseverance in English. I have also been a high school Scholar-Athlete.
Besides lacrosse, I have competed in alpine ski racing for 5 years and am about to start my 6th year. I was member of the Section V high school state team in Alpine. I also represented New York State at the northeast regionals in New Hampshire. I played volleyball and basketball at the modified level. I volunteer at a soup kitchen and help disabled children and adults. This summer I volunteered at my town's lacrosse camp for K - 6th graders and became a level 1 referee for boys lacrosse.
In my free time I practice lacrosse, help my parents around the house since both are professionals and work on my fitness. I also tutor other students in math and science.
Although I am only a Junior I already understand the value of setting goals for myself both academically and athletically and how hard work is what is necessary to achieve my goals. I am very excited about my future as a student-athlete and work every day to make sure I am the best student and athlete I can be.
Thank you for your time,
Chrissy
