Personal Statement

Personal Statement

My Name is Marina Adelizzio; I am 17 and live in Buffalo, NY with my parents.  I work part-time at a local gym, I work out daily, and compete in Varsity Lacrosse and Varsity Indoor Track. I volunteer every summer with a group known as the “Jolly Boys” who raise funds to present scholarships to high school students and funding where it is needed in our community.  I am also involved in DECA, Student Counsel, and a member of the German National Honor Society. I have two older brothers, both of which are currently college students.  I believe family shapes who you are in the beginning.

My family is the most important thing in my life and they all have a lot of interest in my future.  They are the greatest influence to me when it comes to helping me choose my college and my career.

My Dad is a retired Assistant Special Agent in Charge, US Secret Service, and served for 26 years.  He is now a Contract Security Officer for the US Marshall's Service. He is a Graduate of the University at Buffalo.

My Mom is a Commercial Interior Designer and works for a firm in Buffalo, NY.  She is a Graduate of Iowa State University.

My brother Garrett is the oldest, and is a Senior at Edinboro University.  He is also an ROTC Cadet and will be serving in the US Army – Active Duty status, when he graduates in May 2017.

My other brother is Vincent and he is a Sophomore at Embry Riddle University studying Aerospace Engineering, and is also an Army ROTC Cadet.

I love being an athlete and I think this has a lot to do with the choices I am pursuing in college.  I am very interested in Sports Management, Sports Nutrition, and Exercise Physiology.  Another area of interest is completely different than the field of Sports, and that is Homeland Security.  This choice is probably due to my Dad’s previous position before he retired and that both of my brothers are willing to serve in the Military once they graduate.  I come from a very service oriented family and love them all for that.

I want to compete at the collegiate level in Lacrosse and feel that competition also helps develop you as a person.  It promotes team work, motivation, honor, integrity, and trust.  Basically, it motivates me, provides a sense of honor to me and my family, builds my integrity which is noticed by others, trust in your coach and team, which all is part of team work.  It is more important to me to be able to compete/participate, rather than sit on the sidelines.  For this reason, I am open to competing at any Division Level.  I feel I have the capabilities, but I also know that coaches understand what they need for the team.  It is any young person’s dream to want to play at Division I Level, but I don’t want to dream about playing, I want to compete.

I am so excited about college and my future.  As I said, a family begins to shape you, sports continues this path, and college is the final stage of development so you are ready to begin your adult future.
