My name is Allie Ziolkowski and I am passionate about lacrosse and my studies. I am a junior at North Allegheny High School, a large high school with 2,400 students which is located north of Pittsburgh, PA. As a sophomore, I was a starter on the North Allegheny Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team and I was on the Cross Country Team. I play for the Pittsburgh Premier Lacrosse Club and enjoy playing in regional and national tournaments. In addition to playing on these teams, I am a high honors student with a GPA of 3.875.
My school recognizes the athletes who earn above a 3.7 GPA during their season with a Scholar Athlete Award. I earned my Scholar Athlete Awards while I played on the Lacrosse team and while I was on the Cross Country team. I also earned an award in the President’s Education Awards Program in Outstanding Academic Excellence, and I received an invitation to join the National Society of High School Scholars.
I have always been a student council member and this year I am serving as cabinet head of the Staff Appreciation committee. This will be my third year in Junior Classical League (Latin Club). Last year, my Junior Classical League team won the state competition at Penn State University.
As part of my school’s gifted student program, I completed an advertising apprenticeship at Point Park University. This year, I was selected for the apprenticeship at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in the field of Zoo Animal Care.
While school is exciting, I have also learned by volunteering and working at my first job. While volunteering at UPMC Passavant Hospital, I enjoy caring for patients. I learned how much I like to be around people and help them. I also spent some time volunteering in the hospital gift shop and that experience led me to apply for a job in retail. I am now proudly working part-time at American Eagle Outfitters Company as a sales associate.
I am excited about my junior year because I am now taking AP English, AP Biology, Honors Anatomy, and my zoo apprenticeship. These choices will help me determine if biology and the sciences are the areas I want to pursue in college.
This year will be demanding, especially in the spring during lacrosse season. And I like that. I like to be challenged. That’s why I want to play lacrosse for a college that offers a high level athletic program as well as challenging academics.
