Personal Statement
Hello, I am Megan Balog, a senior at Freedom High School in South Riding, Virginia where I have been a successful student and athlete for the class of 2016. I have played one year of varsity basketball, ran as a top varsity girl on the cross country team, and have been on varsity lacrosse my entire high school career. I served as a cross country captain for one year, and a lacrosse captain for two. The highlights of my high school lacrosse seasons include having 97 draw controls in one season, being named to the All-Cedar Run District 1st team (defensive midfield), and All-Northwest Section 2nd team (defense). My coaches say I am a versatile, hardworking, and dependable player, and lead well by example.
I work hard in the classroom because I enjoy the satisfaction that comes with finally solving a difficult problem, and seeing the progress made over the course of the semester. I have also become more involved in our music program during my senior year. I joined marching band going into my senior year because I was recovering from a surgery and it would not have been smart for me to run, but I will be back in action come November. Recovery is also why I was unable to play club this summer and fall. I played on Virginia United for 4 years with Richard DeSomma and Victor Chen, and really appreciate the improvements and experiences playing club brought me.
I am looking to continue playing lacrosse at the next level because it is a big part of my life and I want to keep it that way. After these few months off, going back to practices has helped me to realize how much fun the game is and how much I love it.
