Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Natalie DiLeo and I am a junior at Fairfield Warde High School. I am a boys coxswain at Saugatuck Rowing Club, and am interested in a strong women's rowing program in college. I have been coxing at the competitive level starting in my sophomore year of high school. I spent my first season in a novice four, placing 6th at Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Living in Connecticut we packed up our boats in early November and began winter training soon after. I spent that winter season reviewing a lot of video and recordings eventually filling notebooks and even binders with tips I had found. Coming out of winter still a novice I had proved myself to have gotten significantly better. I was put in the running for a lightweight boat. In only my second season on the team I had beat out one of the senior coxswains for the spot in the Men's Lightweight Eight. Over the season we had a few impressive finishes including 6th at the Saratoga Invitational, 3rd at the Lowell Invitational, and 3rd at the US Rowing Northeast Regional Championships. From regionals we went on to compete at the US Rowing Youth Nationals in Mercer. Now in my third season on the team, I am sitting in varsity boats. In the upcoming spring season I hope to accomplish even more than I did in the last and to continue growing as both a person and a coxswain.

Outside of rowing I am a member of the Circle of Friends club and the Class of 2018 club at Fairfield Warde High School. In my local community I am a junior deacon at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, helping out wherever need be (church school, greeting, setting up events, etc). I have a 3.8 GPA and am extremely devoted to my academics. I enjoy my english and history classes in school, and look forward to taking sociology and psychology courses later on in high school. Looking to major in something with Business in college, I will continue to put in the effort to keep my grades up and balance my rowing life with my academic obligations. I am currently on a boys rowing team which has given me a lot of experience with different maturity levels and the responsibility of leading a group. I plan on continuing my rowing career in college and look to accomplish even more while I am still in high school. My teammates call me a kind, strong, and caring person and I know that I blend in very well with a team atmosphere and culture.

Thank you, Natalie DiLeo
