Personal Statement
I started crew in my freshman year of high school and immediately fell in love with being on the water with my team. I compete in both the fall and spring seasons for my school team, Winsor, and have also done 2 summer seasons with the 7-week Junior Stripes program at Riverside Boat Club. Crew is a large part of my daily life and has taught me many skills: organization from taking attendance, collaboration when making race plans with my boat, leadership when encouraging everyone to help set up launches, and determination through tough practices or races. Next year, I am extremely excited to serve as a Winsor team captain and I hope to lead the team in a successful, collaborative, and fun season.
During both freshman and sophomore summer when I coxed for Riverside I got to compete in the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. The experience of meeting new athletes and forming a team was extremely valuable and helped me to be more comfortable with flexible lineups. Being able to adapt to whatever situation I'm in has helped me not only in boats but also in life. Crew is such a unique sport, and I am so glad I have the opportunity to cox with my high school and hopefully continue into college. In college I hope to join a program that fosters a hard-working and rigorous environment, as well as strong team spirit and sense of community.
