Personal Statement
Hi my name is Jacqueline Burke.
Currently I am 17 years old and just completed my junior year at South Anchorage High School in Anchorage, Alaska. As a freshman, I made starting varsity keeper and was awarded with my first Varsity letter as well as "Second Team All Conference Coaches Choice". During my sophomore year of high school soccer (2014), I was also starting keeper. My team ended with an undefeated season in 2014 as well as winning first place in the Alaska High School State Championships. During my junior year I was again the starting keeper. My team ended the season with only two losses and we won first place in the ASAA Alaska High School State Championships for 2015.
Although my main position is keeper, I can play anywhere on the field. I am a determined and committed player pushing myself to every limit possible to improve my skills. I am a very aggressive goal keeper whose not afraid to dive and get dirty to make a save. In play I always continue to engage my defensive team players and the ball to maintain communication, defensive leadership, and maximize my team's defense. I may only be 5'5, but as you can see in my local sports news AKSN video, with a full sized goal, I can jump as high as needed to save that ball. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years of age but it was about age 9 that I realized I wanted to be a goal keeper. I understand the importance, responsibilities, and significance of my preferred player position as a goalie. I have traveled all around the lower 48 for many soccer tournaments as well as camps. I am playing with my 98/97 Crossfire Alaska team, and have previously played as the CSIC Velocity 98's and the 96/95 Rush Women's team starting at age 14. I practiced with the 96/95 Rush boys team. That was quite the challenge and definitely made me a better goal keeper and field player. My team memberships have also included Cook Inlet Soccer Club, Rush Goalie Collegial Soccer Camp, and I have also participated in ODP trainings. I am always up for a challenge. I take my soccer life very seriously but I also make school my top priority. I finished with a 3.5 GPA as a freshman and a 3.3 GPA as a sophomore, and I exceeded my goal to get a term GPA of 3.7. At the end of my junior year I have a 3.44 I also work a part-time job at Spinal and Sports Injury in Anchorage to save for college and pay for my car insurance.
I am certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR and I have also had training in peer mediation, Resolving Conflicts Creatively Program.
I am interested in a Business Degree especially an area of HR, Sales, and Marketing since I have strong people skills and I am of good character. I am also interested in both academic and athletic scholarships. I am looking for a college to play soccer and complete a business degree in sales, marketing or human resources.
My 92 year old grandfather taught me perseverance and to never give up. I will continue to do everything I can to achieve my goals in the future.
