Personal Statement
I love sports. When my friends and I get together, it's often on a patch of grass with a ball, or hiking up a mountain, or riding a wave. I practice this with my family, with my peers, and also for my health and happiness. I believe that this extends to my competitive team experiences with soccer, because I believe in the sport from all angles. I am skilled and athletic-- reliable on defense and offense; I am dedicated, positive, and supportive on the field and off; and most of all, I am a team player-- my greatest strength. My passes are precise, generous; my footwork is always evolving (my dad and I are always learning and practicing new moves); I excel with other skilled players. I'm also never late for practice-- I love the game!
My first season of soccer at Palisades Charter High School (one of Los Angeles' top-ranked Girls' Soccer teams), we were undefeated, but perhaps I'm most proud of being awarded the Coach's award. The next year, I was honored with Varsity's Most-Improved Player Award and made All-League 2nd Team. I was also nominated by the coaches to join the Beyond Sports soccer/intercultural program in Costa Rica to train with their National Team's training staff and, my favorite part, to teach soccer clinics to disadvantaged children.
I have a rich academic and social life off the field, too. At Pali High, I am in AP and Honors classes; I have been a French tutor for 3 years; I have been a member of Honor Societies since 8th grade. I am a founding member of a film production company, Wonder Wheel Productions, where I have helped my family make 4 feature films. I've devoted much of my free time learning how to shoot, direct and act, and I've had the honor of traveling to several states and countries to present and talk about our films.
I know college is going to be a time for me to grow and develop as a person, student and athlete. I want to excel at all three at a school I love-- and playing the sport I love. I believe all of these qualities fit together to make me a positive candidate for college competition. Thank you for your time and consideration!
