Greetings, I am Abigail Wong, currently a Junior, attending Irvine High School and will be graduating as a member of the Class of 2023. I currently play for the West Coast Futbol Club 05 Girls Academy team under Coach Doug Swanson. I started out as a right wingback, but recently have transitioned to the midfield. I first started soccer when I was around 4 years old, and some day I aim to play at the college level. My ideal university or college would be one that helps me to strive and develop academically, socially, and athletically. Both my parents are engineers, and as such, they have greatly influenced me to pursue a career in engineering. My area of interest is in Mechanical/Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering. During the summer of 2021, I interned at Flightworks Inc. as an engineering intern, working on CAD modeling of mechanical parts and fabrication of mechanical spacers for aircrafts applications. My mentor and manager, Mr. Nadim Eid, was a soccer fanatic and he would bring up countless examples to correlate engineering to soccer! In the past two and a half years I have taken engineering classes for my high school electives. Athletically, I am a very flexible and coachable player. I like to take advantage of my speed to make runs and cut in from the wing in the attacking third. I played on my high school Junior Varsity during freshman year as a center midfielder and served as captain, but later moved up to Varsity playing as an outside defender. My key strengths include commitment, communication, and discipline. I may not be the strongest or the most technical player on the field, but I believe in a strong work ethic on and off the field; and putting it all on the table for the team. As an outfield player I believe that a player should be defined by the five following key areas: first touch of the ball, vision, surrounding awareness, movement, and positioning.
