My name is Joanna Arredondo and I am a Hispanic tri-athlete from Cypress Park, Los Angeles. I am currently playing soccer for Sonia Sotomayor High School. This is now my 7th year playing soccer, 3rd year as a high-school varsity player, and 2nd year playing for the Anahuak Academy Club. My long term aspirations consist of finding a school where I can reach my full potential as an athleader. This is seen through my leadership as a being a F/MF. I have built bonds with my defenders by taking on the responsibility to assist them, by being very vocal, attentive and encouraging. Throughout my life, I have dedicated myself into giving 100% whether it is in the classroom or on the soccer field. Academically, I have challenged myself with AP classes to further my knowledge and grow as a scholar. As a result, I have attained a 3.8 GPA while balancing three sports, being an active member in 4 clubs, a student government treasurer, and serving over 50 hours of community service. Towards the end of my sophomore year, I was honored to receive the CIF student- athlete of the year award of 2014-2015. I believe I am a great candidate for your team because I am coachable and I am open to constructive criticism because it helps me make the adjustments to become a better athletic leader. With this in mind, I was given the opportunity to be named captain for my club team during the season of 2014-2015. Taking the initiative and leading a group of 16 girls was a struggle, but my leadership skills allowed me to prosper and persevere in becoming a dedicated player and a role model. My passion for soccer is unfathomable. I have fast instincts and judgement which is essential as a soccer player because the game requires me to be swift on my toes. Lastly, I desire to make an impact in the soccer community by influencing young athletes to always try their best whether they are in the classroom or soccer field. I always remind my teammates what it means to be a good soccer player by showing the importance of: positivity, teamwork and determination. With hardworking and faith, I believe that I am capable of achieving my ambitions as a scholar-athlete planning to become a collegian scholar- athlete. Thank you for taking the time to read my interest in becoming a possible recruit for your women's soccer program.
