Personal Statement
My name is Sophia Martinez, my dream is to take my soccer skills to the collegiate level. I've been playing soccer since I was three and knew growing up I was going to play soccer and make it part of my life forever. Every time I strap on my cleats and start a new season I go out there with a 110% effort, I'm focus, I defend, I take the ball and make things happen. My hard work ethic, determination, and the ability to set up scoring opportunities in the midfield is what makes me stand out the most.
Everyday I think about how I can become a better player and compete at the next level. I play soccer because, I enjoy running and be a leader on the field. Playing Central Midfielder enables me to see the whole field and be part of the attack and defense. I can take charge and give my teammates advice on and off the field. When I guest played for the Real CO 97-98 Olympico team I couldn't help but take charge and become the captain on the field. I love soccer because it is a team sport, and every team that I become part of are not only my teammates but my family.
Playing on Varsity Douglas County High School as a freshman was a little intimidating, but once I stepped onto the field I gave it my best every game. In practices I put in all my effort into every drill. I believe in the saying "you preform how you practice". Academically my goals are to maintain a B+ average junior and senior year keeping in mind the 2 AP courses I took junior year and the 3 AP courses I will be taking senior year. In college I want to go somewhere I can major in Medical Scientist, Microbiologist, or Biochemistry. Then continue to Graduate school.
In my free time away from soccer I focus on my homework and family. I also played softball and played for the All Stars 3 seasons in a row, and played club basketball a few years too. I love sports and competition. I was also chosen to compete in Districts in DECA sophomore year and State Junior year. But most importantly I leave room for my God. On Sundays my family and I attend church, and I volunteer over the summer for the Vocation Bible School. One day I will play soccer for a University or a College and contribute to taking my team to a Championship and win. I'm hardworking and willing to do whatever it takes to play at the Collegiate level and succeed.
