I am a motivated goalkeeper and student. As a member of a large military family, I have moved frequently. Relocating during my senior year was difficult in that I could not complete a final season as a starting varsity goalkeeper-one of the things I am most passionate about. Because I wanted to play and to stay in shape, I played locally on an AYSO team as well as getting involved as goalkeeper for an older, more competitive, women's team within WISA (Women's Island Soccer Association). Not playing high school soccer also allowed me to really focus on my academics and I have completed a year of college-level academic work as a dually-enrolled homeschool student.
I am proud of my ability to set and to reach goals (which is appropriate for a goalkeeper!). I consider myself to be very focused and motivated and some of my recent accomplishments include training for and finishing the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon in August of 2014, working toward a good ACT score, and marketing and selling my artwork.
Because I've had some strong mentors and encouragers in my life as I have grown up, I know how important it is to reach out to those younger than myself. I find it really exciting to work with kids and am currently serving as an art teacher intern at a local K-12 school. I have also taught guitar, soccer skills, and art to a wide variety of ages in different settings and have tutored and supported my 11-year-old autistic brother.
My collegiate goals and aspirations include majoring in a field that will lead to entry to medical school and to become a general surgeon so I can work in developing countries delivering medical care in remote and impoverished areas. More immediately, I would love to play soccer at the college level because I love the challenge it provides. I would also like to coach developmental soccer as well as reach out to the community by taking part in soccer skills camps and workshops.
UPDATE: I am a currently enrolled student at CSU
