I AM COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE ON THE FIELD AND IN THE CLASSROOM!
One can only lead by example!
Hello, Coach!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. My name is Kelly McKenna and I am NOW A SENIOR!!! (class of 2017) at St. Luke's School in New Canaan, CT.
This is my fourth year as a starting center midfielder and an attacking defender on our Varsity team. Our 2015 varsity seasons was outstanding, finishing in first place. We made it to the Final Championship games in both the FAA and NEPSAC leagues. I was named FAA All-Star and All-League for the NEPSAC league my sophomore year! My team and coaches recognize my commitment, passion and abilities on and off the field. Even though I have attained a level of play that allows me to compete at a high level I continually pushing myself to improve.
I have played soccer all of my life, competing in ODP, the ECNL, and NPL leagues. My club team is Connecticut Football Club (CFC) United where I am an attacking Left Defender. My 2016 Coach was Stuart Dick, a Division 1 Coach for Fairfield U, (previously Yale). I have also trained with Jim O'Brien (Fairfield U), Sean Driscoll (Princeton) and Leigh Howard (Bucknell) as my club and ODP coaches. When I am not with my team I am working on speed & strength training and fitness. Last spring I joined the junior varsity tennis team and improved significantly. I love crew, cross country, and, well, playing all sports!
What do I bring to the game? My philosophy on and off the field is to prepare both physically and mentally before every practice and game. I believe if you play hard and smart, remain determined to keep on trying even in the face of defeat, you can achieve anything. The game isn't over until the whistle blows. I also embrace that it is a team sport and work hard on developing as a team. Oh, and of course, I want to have fun - because it is a game and a great team sport!
My work ethic carries over into my academics. I have worked for all my achievements off and on the field and will continue to do so throughout High School and college. I was honored at my school with the S. Phillip Klein Emerging Leader Award for my leadership and community service. As a result, St. Luke's sent me to a 22-day Outward Bound leadership expedition in Maine. My time during the solo portion was a time of building my confidence and awareness. It was thoroughly exhilarating!
I was selected this spring to represent the St. Luke's School at The Student Diversity Leadership Council, a national conference being held in Atlanta, Georgia in December This is an amazing honor for me because I am passionate about this forum on so many levels and the enabling power behind it. I also organized and recruited agencies to attend our Service Symposium last year - and it was a huge success. We made our student body more aware and involved in local and national not-for-profit organizations.
These service organizations mean a lot to me and I hope to continue to develop and participate in groups like this in college. There are also certain majors I am looking for in a college, such as Marine Science, Global Studies, Entrepreneurship, and Business. There is so much I can offer your school. I would love to have the chance to come to your campus, get to know the school and meet you, your staff and team. Call me at 203-247-7249 (cell).
Kelly
