Personal Statement
Hello!
My name's Alexandria Yawata, but most people call me Alex. I am currently a Junior at Kaiser High School in Hawaii Kai on O'ahu, Hawaii. I am an International Baccalaureate Diploma Student with a GPA of 3.875. IBDP is the highest of rigor and is a global program for select high schools students. In the past I have also taken AP and honor classes. In college I would like to major in Biology or Psychology. Academics is important to me because I would like to aim high in life and achieve the best future I can for myself. I believe education, like soccer, plays a big role in changing the world.
I am a fast forward with speedy footwork and the ability to create and anticipate plays. I make runs to create space and get behind the defenders. My speed and ability to control the ball gives me a good chance at scoring at goal by dribbling towards the goalie. Although I am fast to go straight at goal, I also know when to look for my teammates and take the assist. My dominant foot is my right foot, but I am very confident with my left and can take a shot with either leg. Throughout my seven years of competitive soccer I have played outside fullback, outside midfielder, and forward. My versatility on the field often helps when a counter occurs and defense is needed. As a soccer player I always strive for the best and find myself always looking for what I can do to be a better soccer player.
Here in Hawaii I like to play the ukulele, guitar, and sing. I am very integrated with the community by being involved in my school's community service club. On my free time I work with a local homeless shelter to try and fix hawaii's homelessness problem. I am a very passionate and hardworking individual in whatever I set my mind on. I would like to get out of my comfort zone of my island bubble and explore the rest of the world. In order to get farther in life I believe that it's important to discover and explore something challenging and different. Soccer can give me this opportunity to travel to the mainland and create new experiences in a different environment. I am most passionate about soccer and you'll always find me watching an LA Galaxy game or highlights on youtube.
