I am Gracy Key, a 2021 goalkeeper. I am 6'0 and around 155 pounds, my doctors have told me I will grow to around 6'2",6'3". I started playing soccer when I was 5 years old and I have had a love for the beautiful game ever since. From the first time I stepped on the field, I knew it was the sport for me.
I began playing goalkeeper and mid in my county soccer league. As I and my love for soccer grew, I began playing club soccer at the age of 10. In my first year of club soccer I played goalkeeper and mid. In my future years of club soccer I played full time midfielder. Two years ago I switched to a more serious club. I was starting mid during the fall season and in the winter started training to be a goalkeeper, by the second spring tournament I was full time goalkeeper. We finished the season winning the U14 Indiana President's Cup, where I was given the game ball and named MVP.
Along with my stature and training, I have many advantages that help me be a goalkeeper. I did gymnastics competitively for 5 years. Doing gymnastics helps me with footwork, body control and flexibility that is needed to be an elite goalkeeper. This year I decided to try playing basketball to increase the strength in my hands, by the end of the season I was placed on the varsity sectional roster. My dad is a football coach at my high school and encouraged me to try to kick a field goal at his practice for fun and I can consistently kick a 30 yard field goal.
My parents have taught me education is very important. Through being homeschooled I have had many opportunities that most people my age do not get. I attend Princeton Community High School half day to be eligible to play high school sports. Attending half day has helped me to develop skills such as time management to help me get good grades. I want to pursue a degree in Speech Pathology. I have always had a special connection with children and would love to be part of that important stage of their life.
Growing up on a farm with 4,000 pigs I have learned that hard work and dedication pay off. I also work at a blueberry farm in the summer. I belong to Mt Olympus 4H club and Jr. Leaders. I show pigs, do cake decorating and electricity and won the special merit award in cakes at the Indiana State Fair. I also participated in our county pageant and won first runner up and through that I have had opportunities to serve the community. I am involved in FCA and I attend Bethel Memorial Church in Princeton, IN and am a member of youth group where we have volunteered serving meals at a homeless shelter. I also volunteer for Vacation Bible School and children's church.
