Personal Statement
My name is Julianne DeBlieux and it has always been a dream of mine to pursue soccer for as long as I can. I've had many hardships in the sport, but I never gave it up. I could not picture my life without it. When I was younger I did not make the premier team. I was put on a recreational team with people who played "just for fun." The coach had never played or coached soccer before. Even though I did not see it as a year of improvement, it was. I played every game for the full time. I trained on the side 3 days a week with a player who now plays college soccer for Belmont Abbey College. She helped me to make the team the next year.
My eighth grade year I was put on the varsity high school soccer team. I got to play quite often for being the newest and youngest to the team, and I only improved from it. I got to play with one girl who I look up to now. She plays college soccer. My freshmen year, I started varsity as left centerback. I got to play against some of the best players in the state. We made it too the semifinals of division two that year where we fell short to the team we played in the finals of last year. My sophomore year of high school I also was the starting left center back. We didn't do as well, however, going down in the quarters in a shootout. As for club soccer, I used to I play left center back play on the team for my own age group where I was the starting left center back as well as the captain. This year, however, I am playing up one year with a new team. I hope with this new team I'll be able to try new positions to get used to not always playing where I am comfortable. I always like a challenge and hopefully'm put to the test this year.
In academics I have a 4.0 including all classes, core and extra-curricular. I am in all the honors courses offered at my high school. As a sophomore I made a 30 on the ACT, and I am currently in the running for valedictorian of my class.
I never quit, no matter what opposition. I will never give a half-effort.
