Riane Hunt '16 Recruiting Profile

My collegiate goals and aspirations mainly focus on getting into a good school and playing for a team that I can put 100% of my blood, sweat, and tears behind. I have always wanted to play soccer in college and, since I turned thirteen, I have been striving to improve myself as a player and as a student. Academically, I am ranked in the top ten percent of my class and have been since freshman year. I tend to excel in English and History and I enjoy writing and reading almost as much as I enjoy playing on the field. I've been told by my teachers that I have a special flair for writing, enough that when I was younger I considered it as future career option. However, I am currently more interested in going into a creative Marketing/Business type of career path. I am a member of my school's Student Council, SADD chapter, Peer Leaders, Common Ground, Junior Leos (affiliate of the Lions Club) and participate in winter track. That said, soccer is truly the focal point of my life, and it is a well-known joke that my senior quote will most likely be: "I can't, I have soccer". My soccer career started when I was five years old, playing recreational games behind my elementary school. Now, it has culminated in my making the varsity team as a freshman and starting every game since then. I enjoy traveling to places like Arizona to play in the President's Day Tournament, New York to play in the Manhattan Classic Tournament and to New Jersey and Pennsylvania to play for my Region I club team, F.C Blazers.  We are currently ranked 4th in Massachusetts. Being on the F.C Blazers team has really transformed me into an effective, versatile player, thanks to the efforts of my coach, Francis Okaroh. I am currently co-captain and I play center-back under his coaching, where I feel my leadership and field awareness are really put on display. In all honesty, it is really an uncomfortable proposition for me to try to describe and sell my character as a person and player, but, if I were asked, I'd say the thing that sets me apart from other potential recruits would be my soccer I.Q (my coach's words). I can anticipate and react quickly and effectively to anything that happens on the field, as well as keep a cool head in the face of high-tension situations. I also believe this translates into my academic and personal life as well. Outside of school and soccer, I work as volunteer for Special Olympics-Massachusetts and am also a Grade 8 US Soccer referee and have been a referee for over five years. Also, I have been a volunteer assistant soccer coach for different youth travel teams in my town, where I teach parent coaches with little to no experience drills, foot skills and the rules of the game.
