Personal Statement

Athletics have been an important part of the way I live my life since the age of four. Valuing exercise and the mental discipline and devlopment that it cultivates has led me to play many sports, but the one constant has been soccer. It has been an undying passion for me. To sustain many aspects of my game in high school I have crosstrained and developed leadership skills in two other Varsity sports: Ultimate Frisbee (Varsity since freshman year, MVP as sophomore, finished 2nd in state, and 1st in intertnational invitational) and Alpine Ski Racing (Varsity and competitor at All-State level since freshman year, sophomore most comitted award) as well as maintaining an active and healthy life oustide of sports.

I value mental toughness and balance as crucial components of soccer. I believe that I have sustained high-levels of both in my soccer career as well as know and respect their importance in success of the sport. Being disciplined to practice everyday keeps my mind and body sharp. The reason I have chosen to play at a higher level is for the raw and enduring love of the sport.

There are many quailties of a teammate that I have pushed myself to master. A player has to trust their teammates on the field and I hold myself to the high stadard that I hold for them to have the privilege of playing on the same field.  Field sense, solid ball skills, making few mistakes and efficiently correcting the ones that I do make eg. recovering the ball after a tackle, and support and movement without the ball are examples of these skills. Putting those all together, I have had the opportunity to solidify my skills of possession in small, high intensity situations.

Being a teamplayer is far more than being dependable on the field. Leadership is a word used over and over in the athletic world, especially in soccer and for good reason. Pushing your teammates to do their best, pushes you as well creating a stronger player. I am known for looking out for my teammates on and off the field. I work to create a cohesive, engaged environment. I try to hard to maintain this in every session and every game.

I am interested in a lot of fields but on and off the field I want provide leadership and leave the world better than I found it. I make very solid connections and am self-directed. I am looking for a high-powered college or University with motivated peers who, like me, value passion and curiosity in learning and acquring knowldge to become a leader in my profession.
