Personal Statement
My name is Sarah Dahlstrom and I am very eager to learn more about your soccer program. I have been a three-sport Division I varsity athlete at Algonquin Regional High School since I was a freshman, lettering in soccer, basketball and track each year. I am a Central Mass All-Star in all three sports. I was selected as Captain of both the 2010 varsity soccer and varsity basketball teams (varsity track & field captains selected in the spring). Currently, I am 5 feet 10 inches and weigh approximately 155 pounds. I play club for the Mass Premier Soccer's Renegades U-18 Premier Team. This year our high school team was the #2 seed in the tournament and we were a CMass Semifinalist. Last fall, our high school soccer team won the Massachusetts Division I State Championship. We defeated Acton-Boxboro, the ESPN #1 high school soccer team in the U.S. We also won the Central Mass Team Sportsmanship Award. Algonquin has a great soccer program. My freshman year we were Central Mass Semi Finalists and my sophomore year we were Central Mass Champions. I feel as though I have helped the team accomplish its goals, and look forward to continuing this in college. I believe that I can impact your program through my hard work, determination, drive, and team-oriented style of participation. It has been my dream to compete at the collegiate level, and I think that, while the program will have so much to offer me, I too can make a positive impact.
I have been a starter for our varsity soccer team playing outside midfielder and striker since my freshman year. I would like a chance to compete for that position in college as well but I am willing to play whatever position needed to help the team succeed. Versatility and speed have been my strengths. I've also competed at a high level in varsity track & field and varsity basketball. My top track and field performances are in the discus, 100M hurdles, 400M hurdles, triple jump, and shot put. I participated in three Central Mass Pentathlons (most recently 3rd place finish) and really enjoyed competing against some of the best athletes in our state. I was selected to the Central Mass Track & Field All-Star Super Team. I am a three-time League All-Star in track. In addition to winning and placing in over 10 different varsity track and field events in my first three years, I have also been a starter in varsity basketball (forward) and just finished my third season. I led the team in points and rebounds and was selected as a Central Mass Division I All-Star, a Mid-Wachusett League First Team All-Star and MetroWest Daily News First Team All-Star.
I am mainly interested in colleges in the east. My educational development is extremely important to me, and I therefore am looking for a school with high quality academics. As of now, I am very interested in an Education major or concentration, but am unsure of what level exactly I would like to teach.
Participating in a college soccer program in itself is rewarding. I do hope that I can play as a freshman and do whatever I can to help the team achieve its goals. Whether it is to win games throughout the season, or become champions, I am ready and excited to do whatever I can to help your team succeed.
Thank you for this opportunity!
