Hello, my name is Delaney Tynan, and I am a Sophomore (Class of 2023) at Grafton High School. I am a Right or Left Wing Midfielder and Right or Left Wing Defense(#21) from Grafton High School in Grafton, Massachusetts. I can also play Left Wing Forward and Right Wing Forward. I am mainly an attacking player on my high school team but I do play defense and some midfield on my club team (FC Stars, #7).
I am a 2-year Junior Varsity player. I was a starter on JV and played a majority of the games in both the first and second halves. As a strong, aggressive and confident mid-fielder, I take pride in being able to be first to the ball during all of my games. Once I have the ball, I use my instinct and my powerful foot skills to drive the ball forward, always making clean and accurate passes to my teammates. During the 2020 season I did as much as possible to be a team player towards my teammates and coach. Our team came in first place in our division with a 6-0-1 record. I scored 3 goals and got 5 assists this season while playing midfield and right wing during a few of the JV games. I took on more of a leadership role during practices and games to help me prepare to make the varsity team at the start of the 2021 season. I am always pushing myself to fix things I need work on and improve as much as possible
For me, getting into a good school is hard work, and I work extremely hard to accomplish my goals every day. I think I am a good candidate because I believe that I work harder than everyone, have a good spirit and I can also take leadership and control when It needs to be taken. I have worked harder every day for a better position and spot on the teams I play for. Many people have always told me that I am more mature than my age and I believe I always make good decisions. I will continue to work hard to claim a varsity spot for the coming years of my high school career and work hard enough to play in college. Playing for Abbey Villa, FC Stars, and Grafton High School in their soccer program has improved my game. I’ve learned the team game and the personal game of Soccer. Everyday my teammates make me better on and off the field in school and out of school.
Soccer has been a game I have played since the age of five and I love the strategy, skill, and hard work necessary to advance my game . Most importantly, I value the camaraderie and commitment that being part of a team brings. I feel fortunate to be playing with my teammates that I have grown up playing travel soccer with since we were five years old. When I was little, I used to play all positions in soccer. Coaches would always put me on the left side and the right side because I could always use both feet, even at a young age when nobody else could dribble or kick with their left foot. I was also never afraid of the ball. When I played travel soccer, I was always playing defense up until I played club soccer. I was put up at forward and I starting scoring goals and that changed my game for the better.
I think my versatility is a key aspect of my play. Since I can play forward, mid and defense, if a teammate of mine got hurt and we had plenty of forwards and we needed a defender I can go at the back of the defense and play my game from there. Anything I can do to benefit my team is what I pride myself on being a team-player. I pride myself on my coachability, work ethic, and academic striving to always achieve the best that I can. I believe that these aspects will help me to thrive in a college student-athlete environment.
