I have been playing soccer since I was 3 years old. From the first time I touched a soccer ball, I knew the sport would become a very important part of my life. The game has taught me life skills I will apply through out my future, which will help me succeed. The skills I am referring to include teamwork, competitiveness, work ethic, dedication, respect and purpose. I learned early on that teamwork is the underlying foundation for success. When you have 20 teammates working together in all aspects of the game you create opportunity. Opportunity cannot turn into success unless you approach it with hard work. My mother taught me that success comes when preparation meets up with the moment of opportunity. Preparation in soccer includes hard work and dedication. Hard work on my part involves participating with every occasion my premier team gives me to train. I play with a club that practices any where from 1 to 2 hours away from where I live. I made a commitment to this travel requirement because I wanted the chance to receive the best training available. I have an extreme dedication to my future in soccer and I know that working hard, staying fit and focusing on my development will give me the best chance possible of reaching my goal to play college soccer. Being competitive in athletics has made me become competitive in all aspects of my life. I approach my schoolwork with that same competitive work ethic. I understand clearly that my GPA is just as important as the number of points I earn on the soccer field. The life skill learned through soccer that will carry me the furthest in my future success is respect. I truly believe, as an athlete on the field we must have respect for all involved in the game. That includes coaches, teammates, opponents, fans and officials. Respect for all involved creates an attitude of knowing how to gracefully win and lose. Having said all of this, I want my future college coach to know that the single most important purpose for me in going to college is to further my education and if I have the opportunity to do that and play competitively at the collegiate level, I will be the luckiest person on this earth.
