Personal Statement

This year has gone by so quickly.  My goal is to play high level soccer in a college/university that is dedicated to cultivating creativity in the game, overcoming historical rivalries, and motivating  team esprit de corps.  I am a good candidate because I am both committed and invested in soccer to play.   I aspire to play and enhance ball control, closing the space, and pushing through weakness/gaps.  I have played 9 years in primarily outside midfield, defending mid, and right wing.  I've played at Waldorf Soccer Club, Freestate Soccer Alliance/MD United, CSC Patuxent Football Academy (PFA) 97 Swarm, and  North Point Eagles), learning different styles of soccer.  My favorite has been the Brazilian style of handling the ball, along with the Scottish style.  At North Point High School, we have the highest caliber of players because so many across the county have to apply to our school and we attract the best of the best (highly competitive).    This coupled with my play in the   US Club/US Youth Soccer Region I /WAGS D1/ Super Y League/ Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) underscores my history playing against high level competition from NY, NJ, PA, Mass, Canada, etc.  I prospered from John's Hopkins pediatric orthopedic surgery for my back/contusion, and accomplished academic honors (Academic Letter/) through it all.   This season was exciting with college soccer activities.   In other aspects,  I referee youth soccer to nourish the same competitive play in a safe environment that gave me the respect, organization, “all hands on deck ” leadership that are key for my play. As my coach Danny Bulls has said,  I play midfield because of my speed and ability to to challenge in the mix (outdoor/indoor soccer/futsal). I thoroughly enjoy causing frustration in my opponents when I get to the ball first because  I was underestimated.

What makes me different? I am a female soccer recruit who is eager to play and participate in a program which improves as it builds.  I excel in teams that build up women, inspiring each other to be the best team we can be.   I strive to be a student-athlete who graduates with a degree associated with biotechnology or engineering. I aspire to share my love of unsung heroes like “Mighty Mitochondria” (cell structures that convert nutrients into energy that cells can use and no, Marvel hasn’t signed Mito yet) and chemistry jokes like: An alien throws sodium chloride at me out of frustration.  It was assault!   ….…. a “SALT”! ? I am the recruit whose academic passion for developing new processes for disease, disability and environmental recovery leads to a brighter quality of life.  I am excited about playing for a school where successes are shared to bring the college and community together, to unite in conference journey, and to market future player success (alumni entrepreneurs).
