Personal Statement
My name is Madelyn St. John and I have been playing soccer since 2nd grade. I would say that my goal to be a student-athlete in college really expanded during my freshman year in high school. When our team made it to the state semis for the first time in history, it really opened my eyes to how much the sport means to me. Moving into my sophomore year in high school, the season was cancelled due to the COVID 19. In this time, I have taken it as an opportunity to develop a overall soccer plan which I need to execute to achieve my goal of playing at the collegiate level.
There has been obstacles throughout my years of playing soccer that have shaped me into a better person on and off the field. When I made the decision to switch clubs, I had several people questioning me. People saying that I left my friends and that I would come chasing back to my old team. The change I made ended up putting me with people who were committed to the sport just as I was. Probably the biggest challenge was having to learn a whole new position. Going from a forward/mid to a center back is never easy. It took a lot of change and communication through me to branch out and learn. But I am glad that I went out of my comfort zone because it brought me closer to different people and most importantly soccer. I look forward to playing at the next level. I am looking for a college that would fit me both athletically and academically. I also believe that I have the determination, work ethic and perseverance to go and play in the next level.
