Personal Statement
My name is Lindsay Wichman and I am eligible for 2 more years of collegiate soccer. As a freshman, 2 years ago I committed to playing at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa in fall 2012 - fall 2013. There, I was utilized as a key defensive player and started every game and played almost every minute. Unfortunately, my family and I were unstable financially and therefore, I could not afford to attend Dordt anymore. In that case, I transferred back home to Montana State University this last spring 2014 semester. MSU does not have a soccer program, so I have not been apart of a program for a semester thus far. Though I have kept myself involved in the game through intramural and pick-up games offered by the school.
I've been playing soccer since I was 8 years old. I am very passionate about soccer and my ambition in life is to become an Athletic Trainer. I am interested in talking with you about attending your college and participating in your soccer program.
I graduated from Belgrade High School, Belgrade, Montana in 2012. I have been attending Belgrade schools since 5th grade. In addition to the required curriculum last year I took AP US History and AP Biology, and as my electives I took Advance PE and Spanish II. I was enrolled in Anatomy and Physiology, and Calculus; and as an elective I was taking Yearbook. My cumulative GPA was 3.686 and I was ranked 31 out of 191 students. I have taken the ACT's the fall of 2012 and received a cumulative score of 20. Furthermore, I was an active member of NHS and our school Spanish Club, which I raised enough money to explore Costa Rica three summers ago.
My high school coaches have indicated to me that I have the ability to play college soccer . I am a three year varsity player, and have started every game during my junior and senior year. I started at least half of the games my sophomore year. I played JV soccer my freshman year and was brought up to varsity level during the state tournament. I was voted as most improved player from my teammates during my sophomore and junior year. This was definitely an honor as I worked very hard at perfecting my game. Furthermore, I was selected as 2nd team all conference last year. Then, I was voted most valuable defensive player and was selected as 1st team all conference. Also, as a senior in 2012, I was honored to be chosen as one of the captains of my soccer team; which taught me great leadership skills.
I am primarily a defensive player and have been utilized in these positions to shut down our opponents. I love the challenge of playing great defense to eliminate the offense any scoring opportunities. I believe it takes an offense to win games, but a good defense will always keep you in the game and win championships. I do understand how to play all positions on the field and I am willing to play any position you see fit.
To further my experiences in soccer, I have participated in club soccer for seven years. I played club soccer in the spring and competed in high school soccer in the fall. Likewise, I have attended multiple summer soccer camps.
Ultimately, my ambition is to obtain an outstanding education to pursue my career. Though, I love to play the game of soccer and would be honored to continue playing soccer at a collegiate level. I truly hope I am given this opportunity to fulfill this dream.
As a perspective coach, I hope I get an opportunity to speak with you about the possibility of obtaining a future education and playing soccer at your university. I will also be applying for federal aid/ grants. If needed, I will be requesting to have my coaches send you a letter of recommendation. Likewise, please check out my video clip and portfolio. I have been having trouble getting a hold of video from Dordt College, but I will continue to try to get some film. If you have further questions, please contact me on my cell at 406-580-5713 or via email at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Lindsay Wichman
