Personal Statement

I have been told "no" many times. So many times that "no" isn't a door closing, but opening wider to help me get better. I have never been selected for a high level team on my first try. The rejections fueled a fire of grit, passion, and a raw will to never give up. Training and conditioning 6 days a week and playing soccer 12 months a year, got me to play at a level those coaches said I wouldn't achieve. I pride myself on my work ethic, attitude, and never giving up. In addition to my measurable progress, I have established myself as a leader and a resource for my peers on and off the field. Regardless of my soccer commitments between trainings, multiple teams and their practices, games, and tournaments I am able to balance my friendships, soccer, and my academics, and maintain a 3.8 GPA in my high school honors program. My future goals include continuing to develop as a high level college athlete, continue my academic success, and pursue a career in journalism and sports broadcasting. In the beginning, if I had been told yes, I would never have known what I am capable of achieving.

  • During the week, we worked on defending in the middle of the field, attacking in the final third, and the tactics of defending. Coach's comments included that I understand the tactics of soccer and what is expected of me positionally. Recommendations for improvement include that I need to find ways to find the ball more, positioning when I receive the ball, and technical clean-up in distribution. Despite the Region 1 Coach's interest at the tournament in New Jersey, I was not selected for the Region 1 Team.
  • Camp/Event

  • My New Hampshire State Team went 0-3; a very disappointing showing. Despite the outcome, I was pleased with my performance. I scored 2 out of the 3 goals scored all tournament and worked to keep my team positive and focused. I received feedback from the Region 1 Coach, who observed my performance throughout the weekend. "Your true toughness and play throughout the weekend, you played hard throughout the tournament, start working on your vision of the pitch, continue to build your speed of the game (quicker decisions with and without the ball)."
