Personal Statement
My name is Katarina Doncevic, I am a senior in high school. My goal to play college soccer has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. I am of Croatian nationality; soccer is a religion, a part of my heritage, my passion and in my blood. I am a focused, attentive, coachable, creative, versatile and a quick learning athlete and student. I would bring a positive attitude to games and practices and I give all I have on the field.
I attend Hawken School in Gates Mills, Ohio. It is a small Division 3 private school on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. Northeast Ohio has a steep and rich tradition of girls high school soccer at all 3 division levels. I have helped create the tradition at Hawken with the program being consistently ranked #1 or #2 every season. Since my freshman year we have advanced to further levels in the playoffs culminating in a state final appearance last season, my junior year. Even though we are a small school, we play a "big school" schedule including beating the #1 ranked division 1 team in Ohio last season. I strive to play at the highest level both in high school and club. In the spring, I play for Cleveland United Soccer Club and I am coached by Marko Raduka; Ohio Coach of the Year and National Champion coach. We play a rigorous schedule playing teams from around the mid-west and beyond; we compete in the MRL Premier Division. I was the 2013-2014 Disney College Showcase Champion.
Not only do I give it my all on the field, but I give it in the classroom as well. I maintain a 3.4 GPA. Hawken's rigorous academic schedule and the demand for excellence had well prepared me to be able to succeed academically at the collegiate athletic level. I have improved my academics every year that I have been at Hawken. I am taking AP and Honors Courses as well being involved with the Red Key Club and community service; University Hospitals Cleveland volunteer, MedWish, Hospice of Western Reserve and homeless shelters. I have also helped coach soccer clinics for children with disabilities at the Metzenbaum Center.
In my future academic endeavours I plan on studying Nursing. I would like to go to a school to get an education that is right for me. Not only am I looking for athletics and education in college, but a school that will fit me best.
