Personal Statement
My name is Vanessa Atie and for 11 years I have been working on a personal goal of playing collegiate soccer. I am passionate about my sport and I am always striving to become a more skillful and smarter player. I am a player who puts my team first when I step on the field. My graduation year is 2018. My primary position is attacking midfielder. I am a versatile player who is very comfortable using both feet and can also play other positions on the field. I was a varsity starter my freshman year and played in all games. I was the top ranked freshman player in my conference with 16 goals and 21 assists. My club team experience includes 4 years playing for the FC Pennsylvania Strikers from U13 to U17. Our team achieved Got Soccer #1 National Rank numerous times, and is always ranked in the top 10. I'm very proud of my experience with this team, as I had to make an extra ordinary commitment to train and play at the elite level. As a member of this Philadelphia based team, I traveled 2 hours one way for practices and games 3-4 times per week for 4 years. In the classroom, my school work has always meant a lot to me, and I am very immersed in my work and my grades. I have been an A- to B+ student through out my entire high school career and I have been on the honor roll every semester since middle school. I am currently preparing for the AP Young Scholars program. I'm active in my community as a member of my school's Key Club program. When it comes to soccer, I am very committed and passionate about my sport and every aspect of it. I am proud to be a mentor and coach to younger female players in my community. I believe I am coachable and open to constructive criticism on ways to improve my game. I will work hard for my coach and my team, and I will always be seeking out ways to become a stronger, better and smarter member of the team. I don't just focus on what is best for me, I focus on what is best for my team as a whole.
