Personal Statement
I am very interested in playing Division 1 Soccer. I am currently in my 7th year of playing club soccer, I play with Rio Valley Youth Brownsville United '97 and am looking forward to playing college soccer while studying in the field of Forensic or Medical Sciences (involving pathology or surgical sciences), with a minor in Criminology/Criminal Justice. These are high aspirations but so far in my short life I have always aimed high and worked hard to obtain my goals.
Since I have been in the 6th grade I have played Club Soccer and Club Volleyball, as well as juggling multiple school sports, band, various clubs and higher level academics. I am a great candidate for a college soccer Coach/Team because I have been able to maintain a rigorous athletic schedule, all the while maintaining my academic responsibilities of GT, Pre-AP and now AP High School Classes. I am and have been extremely disciplined and dedicated to everything I do. As an Individual, I believe I possess characteristics that are key to college soccer Coaches and programs, I am used to a strenuous schedule of training and academic balance. I was the only Freshman to make Varsity in my high school and now as a junior my Coach has already made me a Captain, I have the ability to share the field as a strong and positive team player and in addition, I have the ability to lead by example of my own self disciplines and commitment to my studies and sports. Having just turned 16 in August I am currently playing on a Division 1 U18/U19 team, since my Freshman Year I have played up in soccer in order to challenge myself and increase my performance in soccer, all the while preparing for my college level play. I believe that my stringent schedule of academic and sports has helped me to build strong leadership and organizational skills that will be beneficial to my next chapter in life, which will be college life. Although I know that it is often discouraged for students in the medical fields to play D-1 soccer, I feel that I still am a candidate for D-1 because of the regiment I am accustomed to already.
Currently, as a Junior in High School, I have decided to focus only on my academics , my Club Soccer and my high school soccer teams. I am no longer in any other sports, because I am dedicating my time to my studies and the D-1 soccer I am playing with my club team, as well, we will be participating in showcases in the near future like the Texas Cup over Thanksgiving. My area of strength is in defense, of which I have played all positions including, defensive mid, right and left fullback, stopper, and sweeper as well as right and left wing. I am a very physically strong aggressive player, I have excellent strong ball placement skills in short and long field passing with both my right and left feet, and an acute field awareness that allows a skillful collaborated defensive strategy between myself and my other defenders. I am normally the player called out for throw ins because mine are also stronger and longer than the norm, and well placed. My Coaches have always said I am extremely Coachable and I am proud of that as an outstanding quality because although I consider myself a very good soccer player I am always willing to grow in my sport and be flexible to my Coaches/Teams needs.
