Personal Statement
I have been playing soccer for 12 years and goalkeeper for 8 years. I love the game of soccer and my dream, like so many other athletes, is to continue my soccer career in college. The high school that I attend is an all-girl's boarding school called St. Margaret's in Tappahannock, Virginia. While St. Margaret's has been a great experience and is a choice I do not regret making, it has made it impossible for me to play club soccer. In turn, I have had a much more difficult time trying to get noticed by college coaches.
My school is also a very small private school that relies greatly on international enrollment, which means that we are usually rebuilding our soccer team every year. The majority of the teams we play are from big cities outside of Tappahannock with girls that had been playing on teams together for many years. Because of this, our soccer season typically is a losing season. What this has taught me is how important it is to continue working hard and striving for your personal/team goals even when the results aren't always obvious. Last year, my hard work paid off with a record of 211 saves and I made the LIS All-Prep Team and All-State Division 2 First Team. I have been working with a personal trainer over the summer to keep in shape during the off season. During the school year, in addition to regular season sports, I have been doing three days of strength & conditioning and two days of goalkeeper training in the mornings before school.
While playing soccer in college is very important to me, finding the right college athletically and academically is my priority. I want to be at a school where I will be happy if something happens and I cannot play soccer anymore.
Even though it would it would be great to get a significant amount of playing time as a freshman or even a sophomore, I understand that in order to be ready to thrive at the college level I need to go through a lot of physical and mental growth as an athlete. Hard work does not intimidate me and I am committed to putting forth my best effort 100% of the time to become the best goalkeeper possible, and to continue improving as well.
