Personal Statement
I am Rachel Martin, a 2019 grad of Culpeper County High School, and I want to play soccer at the collegiate level for reasons that surpass my genuine passion for the game. Similarly to everyone else, I truly enjoy playing soccer but I also recognize how playing soccer currently impacts other areas of my life. I have two dominant sides to my personality, one in the classroom and one on the soccer field. While I am quiet and reflective in the classroom, I am persistent, vocal and can easily transition between independent and team competitiveness. The thing that remains constant is my single-mindedness; when I am on the field, I am completely on the field. When my current teammates tease me for being “too focused” I can’t help but take it as a compliment. Playing in college will ultimately help me reach any future goals by teaching me time management, develop lasting connections, and showcase my commitment. My sister once told me that a true leader leads by example and learns from those around them.
