When I was eleven years old I joined my first soccer team. One of the first things they had us do to warm-up was dribble the ball around. Of course, I didn't know a single thing about soccer. So, I picked the ball up and began to dribble it like a basketball. I'm sure you can just imagine everyone's reaction. I was beyond embarrassed at this point, and I decided I would never play soccer again. My grandmother was having no part of that. "We are not quitters!" she proclaimed. I was forced to finish out my recreation season. I had decided to play goalie since that involved no ball handling skills. As the season proceeded on I noticed how anxious I became watching everyone fight for the ball. I eventually had a change of heart. I wanted to try playing defense. I somewhat took to it naturally. It was if I had been playing for years! I was actually asked by a travel team coach to play on their team. I worked hard at trying to better myself and it all seemed so destined to be. At that point, I knew my dream was to play college ball. I give soccer credit for my sanity and without it I would be lost. No matter what kind of day I've had, no matter what mood I'm in, soccer fixes everything. The moment I step on the field it's as if all my troubles have disappeared. I give soccer my all, and I try my best 110% of the time. I love soccer and I aspire more than anything to play on a scholarship for college.
