Personal Statement

I have been swimming for as long as I can remember. Throughout the years, I have worked hard and stayed competitive with the girls around me. My main motivation has been to swim in college. From a very young age I had a goal to get to the college level. You don't think I swim back and forth all day for nothing? My aspirations are to be on a college team, better myself, and contribute to the teams' attitude and success.

I'm always trying my best in the classroom. Education and having good grades is very important to me. I am involved in other sports than swim right now. I have been on the Varsity Song Team since my freshman year and Varsity Dance Team the past two years. I was named Exemplary Pepster and I am now captain of the squad. I have always been involved in activities other than swim and time management has been an attribute I have acquired that has been very helpful.

What separates me from others is my personality and my work ethic. I am alway smiling and have a positive attitude, that is just how I am. It is important to me to have good team camaraderie. I am the type of athlete to see a tough set and tell my team that we can do it.  When others complain I encourage them. When I have failure, I take it as motivation. I see myself as disciplined, and I am used to strict coaching. I am not afraid of hard work; I always want to better myself, and go that extra mile. Another thing I have been told that separates me from others is that I thrive off of pressure. The way I race is to use pressure to push me and focus in on what I am doing in my race. I enjoy preforming well not only for myself, but for my teammates and my coach.

My best stroke has gone back and forth between freestyle and backstroke. When I was young I was better at backstroke, but as I got older my freestyle got stronger. Now that I am older, I have been able to preform in the events I am needed to. Freshman year I did the 500 free and 100 back. Last year my main event was the 200 free with a time of 1:56.67 and 100 back at a 1.00.97. This past season I swam mostly 50 free at 24.65 and 100 free at 53.88. I earned First Team All Sunset League, I qualified for CIF, and my relay broke the Fountain Valley High School 200 medley relay record. I am currently training and working hard to continue to drop time and prepare myself for college!
