Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Kaitlyn Honnick. I am a junior at Conifer High School in Conifer, Colorado. I began swimming at five years old, and I’ve been in love with the water ever since. In fact, I told everyone my name was Ariel (from The Little Mermaid) for a number of years! I have been swimming competitively on the Jeffco Hurricanes swim team in Evergreen since I was seven years old, and have aspired to swim at the collegiate level for many years. I know that swimming in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and this experience can completely change everything about my life!
Swimming is only one passion in my life. I truly love learning, and have always had a passion to excel in the classroom. To be honest, I’m more competitive with myself in the academic arena then I am in the pool! I have always taken the most challenging and advanced classes offered to me since Elementary school, and I have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. At this point, I have taken seven Honors classes and six Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and I have completed theses classes while swimming two hour practices every day. Although I have not obtained the 4.0 I wanted, I’m very proud of my GPA considering my academic and athletic work load.
I’d like to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and in the pool. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college with the highest level of academia and competition as possible! I do not know the ideal geographic location of the college I’d like to attend. I am drawn to the ocean, but have lived in Colorado my whole life and love the mountains. I see advantages and disadvantages in both big and small schools. Did I mention I’m a sucker for the water, and love the beach?
I’m looking for a coach and a swim program that combines outstanding training and guidance. I believe this kind of program combined with my hard work in the pool will take me into the next level of competition.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kaitlyn M. Honnick
