Personal Statement
I have been swimming for the greater majority of my life, striving to be better with every stroke. Swimming at the collegiate level would be a truly incredible experience that I know would bring my swimming to the next level. I work hard and push myself to be faster every practice, so that my training is reflected in my times.
I am a hard worker in and out of the pool. I study hard in order to keep my grades high, and I'm also involved in many different activities outside of swimming and school. I am a ski instructor, swim instructor, and I take part in trail crews. Volunteer work is also a large part of my life, my swim team takes part in many opportunities to give back to our community.
I believe that you do not need to be the oldest on the team to be a leader. Leadership comes in the way you act towards your teammates and the way that you present yourself as an athlete. Training hard, being encouraging, and making sure everyone feels welcome on the team are all ways that I have been a leader on my high school team since freshman year. I have recently been elected captain of my team, and it shows that my leadership on my team is recognized.
College swimming is something that could change my life for the better. The training, team environment, and level of intensity are all things that help me to thrive as a swimmer. My goal every practice is to train my absolute hardest and walk out of the pool feeling as though I gave it my all. I have learned through my many years as a swimmer that leaving a race or practice unsatisfied, especially knowing you did not put 100% of your effort in, is devastating. Leaving it all in the pool is very important, in order to bring your team and yourself to victory, and I think about that every time I jump in.
