Personal Statement
Ever since I began competitively swimming at age 4, I have always dreamed of being on a college swim team. This has been my motivation since day one and has continued to be throughout my swimming career. I truly think competing at the collegiate level would be an exciting and rewarding experience for me. I understand the level of commitment it takes to be a successful college student-athlete. I know how much time and effort I will need to put into not only swimming with the team, but also into my classes and schoolwork. There is a huge time management component and at times I know it will be difficult, but I am ready to accept the challenge.
I am a very hard worker and am dedicated to everything I do. I push myself mentally and physically every day in the classroom and the pool, and try to encourage those around me to do the same. I am a very positive and upbeat person and want to bring these qualities to a team.
I am looking for a school that would challenge me every day not only in swimming, but especially in the classroom. I plan to major in Speech Pathology because I love people. I love being around people, talking with them, and working with them. I would like to help individuals who are trying to overcome an obstacle in their life. Through adversity, people learn and grow and adapt, and I want the opportunity to be a part of that and help make an improvement in someone's life.
As for my achievements in the pool, there are a few that I would like to highlight. At the Naugatuck Valley League Championships in 2012, I won the 200 I.M. and the 500 freestyle events. During this same championship meet, I was also nominated and became runner-up for the John Reardon award. This honor is awarded to the swimmer with the best performance calculated using a system that takes both time and event into account. At the Connecticut Class S State Finals in 2012, I came in third in both the 200 I.M. and 100 breaststroke, which qualified me for Connecticut State Opens that same year. Based on these performances, I was named an All-State swimmer in 2012, and am working to be honored with the same this season.
It is important to me to succeed in both athletics and academics. I have been a student-athlete all my life, and I am working hard to continue in that role in college.
